The Other Liquid Gold: Hot Turmeric Milk

Have you ever sipped a cup of the precious liquid gold? Not breastmilk--although my toddler can confirm that the boob milk is a pretty amazing, too. But I'm talking about the other liquid gold, aka Haldi Ka Doodh, aka hot turmeric milk.

Just recently, I was reading an IG homegirl's repost and it dawned on me that I have not tried the warm golden glory. I love turmeric and all its superfood properties. I sprinkle it on my dishes and it's one of the key ingredients in my anti-inflammatory detox water.

The recipe, from Cooking Without Limits, is pretty simple. I swapped the original milk suggestions to the ones we drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond, cashew, coconut, or hemp seed milk
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (this helps with absorption)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Directions:

Pour a glass of milk into a pot and turn the heat on. Add turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon and coconut oil. Let the mix boil for a few minutes. You can strain it if you like. Add honey and enjoy your turmeric milk.

Lately, I've been swollen and feeling all types of yucky. I'm going to give this hot milk a go for a few weeks.
